Welcome to the Imperial Polk County Astronomical Society website! We are a group of amateur astronomers in Central Florida, dedicated to informing and educating the public about the art and science of astronomy. Come join us at one of our monthly “Astronomy Nights,” located at one of several state and municipal parks here in Polk County.
The 3rd Friday of every month is Friday Fest in Bartow. Its a block party for the city. We set up at Main St. & S Wilson Ave. with our telescopes for the public to stop by and look at what’s up in the night sky that night. The party starts at 6:00 pm, but we’ll be there a little earlier with solar scopes to look at the Sun. So, come on out and see what’s in the night sky.
Sun ‘n Fun will be hosting a Star Party. We’ll be there to treat you to a glimpse of the universe through our telescopes and answer any questions you may have. We’ll look at our own solar system planets, Milky Way Nebulae, and of course, stars, individual, double and clusters. It’s all impressive. Just think, you’ll be looking not only in our own celestial “backyard”, but millions of light years away at other Galaxies. Come and let us bring the universe to you.
We “get around” to several different venues and events during the year. We hope to see you at as many of these events as you can come to.
