Welcome to the Imperial Polk County Astronomical Society website! We are a group of amateur astronomers in Central Florida, dedicated to informing and educating the public about the art and science of astronomy. Come join us at one of our monthly “Astronomy Nights,” located at one of several state and municipal parks here in Polk County.

    Kissimmee Prairie Preserve
    33104 NW 192nd Ave, Okeechobee, FL 34972

With the present Covid-19 situation, Kissimmee Prairie is in the process of determining what will happen in November. So, for now it’s wait and see.
We hope to know within 2 weeks. Keep checking back for updates. We’ll let you know if it’s a “Go” or “No go”.

We have a new venue on our list of places. Kissimmee Prairie Preserve is our latest addition.
The Prairie has extended an invitation to us to do an “Astronomy Night” at the Preserve. What’s planned? We’ll do a presentation on light pollution and how it affects our environment and you. And we’ll show you what you miss out on when there’s too much light to see the wonders of the universe. Then, weather permitting, we’ll get our scopes out so you can see those wonders up close and personal. Since the Preserve is an official dark sky location, the view is fantastic. And the campgrounds are great. Have an RV? Plan to use it.
